At dawn on Tuesday, the armed forces of Abkhazia /a republic which seceded from Georgia/ was engaged in an armed clash with a group of Chechen and Georgian terrorists. Press secretary of the Abkhazian mission to Moscow Tatyana Guliya reported that a 10-strong patrol unit of the Abkhazian armed forces had been attacked from a terrorist ambush and fired at in the Kodor Gorge 14 kilometres from the Abkhazian sector of the military Georgian motor road. Some servicemen were killed, their number is being specified. Tatyana Guliya recalled that, when entering the Armenian village of Naa on Monday night, Abkhazian servicemen had discovered the bodies of 14 civilians shot by terrorists. Armenians constitute a majority of the village residents. According to the defence ministry of the self-proclaimed republic, the village residents were gunned down by a unit of Georgian and Chechen militants who dispersed in mountains after a fight at the village of Georgiyevskoye. On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused Georgia of encouraging terrorists on Georgian territory.
