The United States has deployed several new groups of rangers in the Northern Alliance-controlled territory of Afghanistan, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard Myers said on Sunday. During his appearance on the N.B.C. TV channel, he pointed out, in particular, that the servicemen were deployed on Friday and on Saturday night. According to him, the special-forces groups will, in particular, carry out missions to guide the US Air Force onto targets. As the General pointed out, the more rangers the Pentagon has in the region, the more effectively the US Air Force will deliver missile and bomb strikes on the Taliban positions along the frontline separating them from the Northern Alliance troops.
