Aq Kupruk, Balkh Partially Recaptured By Taleban

After 12 hours of fighting, the Taleban recaptured part of Aq Kupruk, a district situated in the province of Balkh 70 km south of Mazar-i-Sharif, the unofficial capital of Northern Afghanistan. According to the IPP news agency, this information was confirmed by Qudratullah, a spokesman for Northern Alliance Commander to Balkh Mohammad Ata. On his part, Taliban's Ambassador to Islamabad Abdul Salam Zaeef insisted that Taleban had also captured the town of Aq Kupruk on Sunday, but admitted that the battle inside the town was still in progress. In the meantime, Mazar-i-Sharif is still controlled by Taleban despite the Northern Alliance's attempts to capture it.
