Two suspects behind an armed attack on police were arrested in Chechnya on Wednesday. According to the provisional police press centre, the attack was staged in the Chechen town of Argun on January 5, 2001. Two assailants opened fire on a police car as it passed them in the street, killing one policeman and heavily wounding another. Investigation of the crime was a matter of honor for the Argun police office, remarked the press center. The team investigating the crime made an all-out effort to track down the suspects, who managed to stay out of reach until Wednesday by hiding among members of armed units based in Southern Chechnya. With the operation to seize the suspects successfully accomplished, police convoyed the couple to a pre-trial detention centre in Argun.
