Operational Pause Must Be Announced In Afghanistan, According To Russian General

After the Northern Alliance forces entered Afghanistan's central and southern Pushtun-populated areas, mostly political measures must be taken to settle the situation and resolve the problem of this country's future political system. General of the Army Makhmud Gareyev, President of the Russian Academy of Military Sciences, Hero of the Soviet Union said this in an interview on Wednesday. He is taking part in the international conference on strategic stability held currently in the Russian capital. According to general Gareyev, an "operational pause" must be announced. He said that the bombings and every kind of military operations must be suspended during the Ramadan to decide "who will rule Afghanistan". The "Pushtun groupings" must become part of the Afghan government, according to the Russian general.
