Customs officers of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport have thwarted two attempts to smuggle art treasures out of Russia. According to Russia's State Customs Committee, an Italian citizen carrying a valuable Russian icon in his pocket was apprehended while passing through customs at Pulkovo. The man was going to take a flight to Germany. Another Italian, also bound for Germany, was caught as he was trying to smuggle out two Russian icons hidden in a bag. After confiscating the icons and filling out protocols on customs rules violation, the customs officers set the offenders free.
