Russia will take part in all international forums for rendering aid to Afghanistan and in a majority of the projects for the restoration of that country, said Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Ordzhonikidze who represented Russia at the international conference for restoring Afghanistan in Tokyo.
According to the Russian diplomat, that forum was of "a very great importance," because "all are interested in seeing Afghanistan peaceful and never threatening other countries." The Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said that very soon representatives of the Russian and Japanese government departments would discuss concrete plans of the participation of the two countries in international programmes for assistance in restoring Afghanistan. In the first place, these programmes will concern the liquidation of mine fields and the construction of electric power stations and electric transmission lines in Afghanistan.
The representative of the United Nations told the RIA Novosti correspondent in Tokyo that this world organisation hopes for active cooperation with Russia, above all, in fulfilling the task of liquidating the mine fields in Afghanistan. According to this representative, who asked not to mention his name in the press, the United Nations and international non-governmental organisations have already had the experience of cooperating with Russia in demining work in Afghanistan.
