Large-scale terrorist attack averted in Chechnya

The interim Interior Department of the Russian Interior Ministry has averted a large-scale terrorist attack in the village of Gehi, the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya.

On Wednesday, the regional operational HQ on conducting a counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus reported that the explosive device was found near a ruined house on the outskirts of Gehi and was detonated on the spot.

According to the headquarters representative, the "infernal machine" consisted of 3 mortar shells, 4 grenade-launcher charges and 2.4 kilograms of TNT. The bomb was equipped with an electronic detonator and planted so that "the blast wave could ruin houses within several hundred meters," the Headquarters noted.
