A Chechen field commander, Aslanbek Abdulkhadzhiyev (a.k.a. "Big Aslanbek"), has been killed. This information was confirmed for RIA Novosti by Chechnya's Security Council Secretary Rudnik Dudayev.
He denied further details of the operation in which Abdulkhadzhiyev was killed.
In 1995, along with another warlord, Shamil Basayev, Abdulkhadzhiyev took part in the military raid on Budyonovsk, when Chechen terrorists took hostages in the local maternity hospital and city clinic. More than 100 people died at that time, most of them were peaceful civilians. Western media are persistently demanding that Russia should resume negotiations with Chechen terrorists under the pretext of "human rights" observation.
