Kalashnikov and Grenades Seized at Entrance to Notorious IK-47 Prison

Truck Loaded With Weapons Stopped at Russian Prison Known for 2021 Riot

Authorities in Kamensk-Uralsky intercepted a truck loaded with several types of weapons as it approached Penal Colony No. 47, an institution that became widely known after an inmate uprising in 2021. The dangerous cargo was allegedly being transported onto the prison grounds.

Declared as Wood Products, the Cargo Turned Out to Be Weapons

The regional office of the Federal Penitentiary Service reported that the truck had been declared as carrying finished wood-processing products. However, the actual contents of the vehicle turned out to be entirely different.

Kalashnikov Rifle and Grenades Found in the Vehicle

Inside the truck, officers discovered a Kalashnikov rifle with ammunition, a deactivated pistol with two magazines, hand grenades, a tactical helmet, a backpack, radio sets, and several mobile phones.

Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident. The driver has been taken in for questioning, and officers are working to determine who sent the cargo and who it was meant for. According to 112, the driver claims the items found in the cabin were his own, supposedly carried “for personal safety on the road.”

The prohibited items have been seized. A criminal case has been opened on charges of illegal possession and transportation of weapons.

IK-47 Inmates Once Staged Self-Harm Protest

The riot at the maximum-security Colony No. 47 took place on March 28, 2021. Inmates smashed surveillance cameras, attacked other prisoners, and triggered large-scale unrest. A total of seven individuals became defendants in the case, all of whom were repeat offenders serving time for serious crimes.

The prisoners claimed they were being beaten, threatened, extorted, and faced attempts of sexual assault from other inmates. As a form of protest, many inflicted injuries on themselves.

Unofficial reports suggested that about a hundred inmates harmed themselves, though the Federal Penitentiary Service denied these numbers. Special forces were reportedly prepared to enter the facility, but negotiations ultimately prevented their deployment.

Two Men Received Real Prison Terms

Last year, the Sinar District Court of Kamensk-Uralsky issued verdicts against six inmates accused of organizing the riot. Only two were found guilty.

Nikita Koldaev and Suren Petrosyan were sentenced to six and eight years in prison respectively and were identified as the instigators of the conflict. Charges against the remaining defendants were dropped due to insufficient evidence.
