The operation to neutralize a group of terrorists who on Friday infiltrated into the Urus-Martan region of Chechnya was finalized. According to the information provided by Shirvani Yasayev, head of the administration of this region, the blockade of the Shalazhi and Gekhi-Chu settlements was totally lifted. Passage into these settlements was allowed from the Saturday morning. Yasayev pointed out that residents who abandoned their houses on Friday morning started gradually coming back.
According to him, in the course of the combat clash with militants 6 Chechen militia officers were killed, there were wounded people including casualties among civilians. According to the information provided by law enforcement agencies, 8 people were killed and 9 - wounded. Among them were 4 officers of the Urus-Martan regional department of the Ministry of Interior and two local residents who were killed during the combat clash in the settlement of Mastan-Chu.
There also two servicemen of the regional military commandant's office were wounded together with an officer of the regional department of the Ministry of Interior who arrived from the district centre of Urus-Martan to assist their colleagues.
In Shalazhi, according to the information provided by the local militia station, two officers from special militia services of the Omsk region were killed, Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Suyarov and Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Fomin. One officer of the Urus-Martan regional department of the Ministry of Interior and two servicemen from the Interior forces outpost were wounded. They were the first to prevent militants' advancement and were engaged in battle until the reinforcement arrived.
In the course of the combat clash local civilians residing in nearby houses also suffered. Three people were wounded, one woman and one children being among them.
The head of the regional administration reported that there were houses destroyed in the Gekhi-Chu settlement where on Friday afternoon major operation was carried out to eliminate the bandit formation. The exact number of destroyed houses is being specified.
According to Yasayev, Shalazhi houses were not damaged.
Nothing is reported about the number of killed terrorists.
