Ukrainian army assumes the offensive, moves to Donetsk

The Ukrainian army attacked checkpoints of defense forces around the perimeter of the town of Slavyansk. Combat action is underway.

A representative of the town defense headquarters said that five volunteers were seriously injured. According to him, the Ukrainian troops are trying to blockade the town.

"We have been taken in a tight circle, many shops are closed because there is no food, they have nothing to sell," he said.

The Ukrainian military, moving on four armoured vehicles, opened fire at a checkpoint in the village of Kostantinovka and advanced in the direction of Donetsk, said activists of the People's Republic of Donetsk.

On May 4 at night, the military drove into the city. Armoured vehicles were also seen in the area  of the village of Novoselovka; snipers were spotted near the Konstantinovka TV tower," the militia.

According to preliminary data, there were unarmed civilians at the checkpoint, which the Ukrainian military attacked. A spokesman for the People's Republic of Donetsk said that "all of Konstantinovka is on fire, four APCs of the National Guards are heading towards Donetsk."
