In Beirut, a car bomb exploded. The blast wave was so powerful that many cars parked nearby caught fire; neighboring houses were partially destroyed. The blast killed 18 people. About 300 people with injuries of varying severity were taken to local hospitals. Rescuers continue to remove the debris.
The car exploded near the headquarters of Shiite group Hezbollah. The situation in Lebanon began to aggravate after the Shiite movement showed armed support to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
