The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) department for the Chechen Republic submitted to the Supreme Court of Chechnya a criminal case for accusation of former head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ichkeria Islam Khasukhanov.
Khasukhanov was detained in spring of 2002 in the town of Shali as a result of the special operation.
The FSB department for Chechnya reported that Khasukhanov is accused on several articles of Russia's Penal Code, specifically, Terrorism, Creation of Illegal Armed Formations, and Illegal Storage, Carrying and Acquisition of Armaments and Ammunition and Explosives.
The FSB department stressed that the investigation had established and proved the facts of Khasukhanov managing illegal armed formations, i.e. issuing orders and combat instructions to field commanders to stage acts of terror and sabotage on his own behalf and on behalf of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, planning the activity of illegal armed formations, and providing gangs with arms and funds.
Khasukhanov faces a long term of imprisonment for all the crimes committed.
