Suicide Blast Kills 6 in Pakistan

An apparent suicide bomber on a motorcycle rammed a bus carrying staff from a government department, killing up to six people in Pakistan on Thursday, police said.

"In the bus there were 25 to 30 staff members of a government department," Nasir Durrani, a regional police officer in Rawalpindi, told reporters, AFP reports.

The bus is believed to have been carrying factory workers home after their shifts, Aljazeera.net reports.

The attack, the latest in a string of deadly bombings in Pakistan, happened in Rawalpindi, a garrison city and home to the headquarters of Pakistan's military.

TV footage from the scene showed pieces of a charred motorbike lying on the ground, as well as a damaged white bus, yellow car and white van. Shattered glass littered the road.

City police chief Nasir Durrani said at least six people died in the blast and around 20 more were injured, The Associated Press reports.

He also said that blast damaged several private vehicles that were passing through the road at that time.

It also ripped electricity and telephone cables and shattered windows of homes and offices in the vicinity, witnesses said, Associated Press of Pakistan reports.
