Popular Bubble Tea Trend Sparks Doctor’s Warning About Dangerous Side Effects

Dietitian Warns Bubble Tea Fans About Hidden Health Risks

Regular consumption of bubble tea — a drink made with chewy tapioca pearls — may lead to serious health issues, dietitian and therapist Regina Akhunyanova said in a conversation with UfaTime.ru.

Bubble Tea Packs Sugar, Syrups, and Calories

The doctor noted that many people treat bubble tea as ordinary tea, even though its base consists of tapioca pearls made from starch and sugar syrup. She emphasized that additional syrups and milk turn the drink into a highly caloric product.

Glucose Spikes, Weight Gain, and Metabolic Strain

According to Akhunyanova, the main danger comes from the drink’s ability to cause a sharp rise in blood glucose followed by a rapid drop. This swing triggers hunger again soon afterward. She added that regular bubble tea consumption leads to weight gain, fat accumulation in the liver, the development of insulin resistance, and disturbances in gut microbiota.

“This so-called ‘tea’ turns out to be an ordinary dessert with enormous caloric content,” Akhunyanova warned.
