Apples help protect the lungs from infections during the winter months, according to dietitian Lyudmila Denisenko, who outlined the fruit’s unexpected seasonal benefits in a conversation with KP.RU.
Daily Apple Consumption Linked to Better Lung Function
The nutrition expert explained that, according to several studies, people who ate apples every day demonstrated better lung function and had a lower risk of developing respiratory diseases compared with those who did not maintain this habit.
She added that apples also help shield the respiratory system from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke and polluted air, offering an additional layer of protection during the cold season.
Best Apples Are Seasonal and Locally Grown
The specialist emphasized that the most beneficial fruits are seasonal varieties grown in local orchards. Ideally, she noted, apples should be free of wax coatings or chemical treatments to maximize their health benefits.
