Ground Beef From Fresno Recalled

More than 800,000 pounds of ground beef from a Fresno processing plant have been recalled because of concerns the meat might be linked to a salmonella outbreak, federal officials said Thursday, Chronicle reports.

Safeway announced the recall Thursday for fresh ground beef products sold between June 6 and July 14. The recall affects stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming , Bizjournals.com reports.

Salmonellosis symptoms can include abdominal cramping, diarrhea and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. The illness usually lasts between four and seven days. Most people recover without treatment. The very young, the elderly and those with weak immune systems are most susceptible , USA Today reports.
