Corning Inc.’ profit rose 11 percent due to strong demand on glass needed in flat-screen televisions and auto pollution filters.
Earnings rose to $717 million, or 45 cents a share – in comparison with $646 million, or 41 cents a share, in last year's fourth quarter.
Corning Incorporated is an American manufacturer of glass, ceramics and related materials, primarily for industrial and scientific applications. The company was known until 1989 as Corning Glass Works. While probably best known for its line of ceramic table and cookware (a business which it sold but still holds a small interest in) Corning has transformed itself over the years into a high technology company, allocating a significant amount of resources towards research and development.
