Russian movie star suffers a terrible car accident

Doctors say that the actor's life depends on the location of cerebral haemorrhage

Russian movie star, Nikolai Karachentsov, suffered a serious car accident at night of February 28th. The actor was driving his new Volkswagen Passat, when the car veered off the ice-covered road and slammed into a pole.

As it turned out during the investigation, the car's airbag did not work during the collision. The actor was hospitalized with severe cerebral and stomach traumas, The Izvestia newspaper wrote. Nikolai Karachentsov's passenger in the car, Andrei Kuznetsov, was a lot luckier. The airbag worked properly on the front passenger seat: the passenger only had cerebral concussion. Andrei Kuznetsov flagged down a car and took the actor to the nearest hospital, where he had a craniotomy operation performed on.

Actor Nikolai Karachentsov was driving to his mother-in-law's, who had died of cancer on Sunday night. The actor's wife, Lyudmila, was staying in her mother's house that night. Lyudmila called Nikolai and told him that her mother had just died. The actor called his relative, Andrei Kuznetsov, picked him up and they both drove to the place, where mother-in-law lived.

The actor was absolutely sober, although he was very nervous and was driving at a rather high speed on the ice-covered road. The car went into a skid and ran into a pole. The airbag did not open on the driver's side, Kuznetsov said, but it did work on the passenger's side. Andrei Kuznetsov also said that the actor had been driving the car for less than 12 months.

The actor suffered very serious injuries: a calvarium bone fracture, a cerebral trauma, a cerebral hematoma and a stomach injury. Nikolai Karachentsov was operated on the same night, after the brain scanning procedure. Doctors say that the actor's life depends on the location of the cerebral haemorrhage: if it occurred in the left hemisphere on the brain, the paralysis of the right part of the body is likely to occur. If the right hemisphere was damaged in the accident, the actor will probably suffer from the moving functions disorder in the left part of the body. If the so-called dead area of the brain was injured, where no vital centers are concentrated, the number of problems will be a lot smaller. The actor will have to spend at least 4 months in the hospital recovering from the accident.
