8 Chechen militants to be soon extradited to Russia - 5 October, 2002

The remaining 8 Chechen terrorists of the 13 that had been kept in custody in Georgia are to be extradited to Russia in the near future, Vladimir Kravchenko, head the RF Prosecutor General's Office in the North Caucasus, said Friday in the airport of Mineralnye Vody (a city in Russia's southern Stavropol Territory).

He pointed out that the long and difficult talks with the Georgian side have resulted in extradition of five Chechen militants who had been detained by Georgian border guards earlier this summer.

Vladimir Kravchenko stressed that the RF Prosecutor General's Office in the North Caucasus was investigating a criminal case opened after a fight that took place on July 28, 2002 between Russian border guards stationed in the town of Itum-Kalin and a group of bandits.

On Friday, a plane carrying five Chechen terrorists extradited by Georgia to Russia landed in the airport of Mineralnye Vody.
