Real won 4-0 against Racing Santander, Barça won; the Valencia duo Valencia CF and Levante lost. Valencia was thrashed 5-1 at Barcelona and Levante lost 3-5 at home against Rayo Vallecano. Espanyol drew 1-1 away at Getafe and jumped ahead of Levante, as did Athletic Bilbao, 3-0 winners against Málaga. Atlético (Madrid) drew 1-1 at Gijón.

AC Milan came away from Cesena with a 3-1 win; Juventus beat Catania 3-1 while Udinese received Cagliari and drew 0-0. Lazio went down 5-1 at Palermo; Roma beat Parma 1-0, Napoli won 3-0 away at Fiorentina and Inter went down 0-3 at home to Bologna

Schalke close the gap with a win (4-0 against Wolfsburg) and chasing behind, Werder Bremen (3-1 winners at Hamburg), Bayer Leverkusen (4-1 at home to Augsburg) and Hannover (4-2 against Stuttgart) all chalked up wins.

FC Porto 2 points behind Benfica with a game to come in two weeks in Lisbon. Benfica slipped up at Guimarães, 0-1 while Porto went to Setúbal to win 3-1. Braga came away from Barcelos with a 3-0 win against Gil Vicente; Sporting CP beat Paços de Ferreira 1-0 at home and Marítimo came to the continent to beat Rio Ave 3-1, while Nacional, also from Madeira, thrashed Académica 4-1.
