USA incidentally sends Hellfire to Cuba

The US authorities are trying to retrieve an air-to-surface missile that was erroneously delivered to Cuba in 2014.

According to Vesti.Ru, the US military command sent a Hellfire missile without a warhead to Spain for NATO exercises in 2014. After the maneuvers, the missile was delivered to Paris. Afterwards, for some unknown reason, the missile was flown to Havana aboard an Air France transport flight

It took Lockheed Martin quite a lot of time to realized that the missile had been sent to a wrong address.

Currently, the State Department is trying to understand whether the case should be categorized as negligence or espionage. The US is concerned that Cuba may deliver secret technology to North Korea, China or Russia.

If it was a fault of logistics, Lockheed Martin will have to be held accountable for that. Under the laws of the United States, the corporation may face a multi-million dollar fine for violating the ban on exports of military or dual-use products.
