Thousands US pupils boycott English test

Nation-wide refusal to take English Language Arts examinations overran the United States.

Parents boycott the testing, as they feel that their children are short-changed because teachers are forced to prepare them just to the standardized testing, that is the term of their work.

One of the mothers of the students claimed: "Essentially I see no diagnostic educational benefit to my child, I see no compelling evidence, this is a fair and accurate way to assess children or teachers. All this emphasis on testing actually interferes with meaningful learning and assessment."

Parents do not oppose the testing itself, but rather stand for a worthwhile teaching process.

Among the other parents who campaign against the state-mandated examinations, is Rob Astorino, Westchester County executive, former Republican gubernatorial candidate. He did not allow his two children to take part in the testing either.

Number of pupils not taking the testing exceeds 100,000 for the monent. School officials and superintendents claim that the figures are to increase.
