Vice rector of Russian Customs Academy found dead in detention center

Zalim Kerefov, vice-rector of the Russian Customs Academy, who was arrested for drug trafficking on the DarkNet, committed suicide in solitary confinement at Detention Centre No. 1 in the city of Noginsk.

His body was found on 16 July, Telegram channel SHOT reports. He left a suicide note, in which he repented of his deed.

On July 8, the Federal Security Bureau (FSB) revealed details of the criminal case, in which the vice-rector appeared as a defendant. In particular, he was running five online stores that were selling drugs on the DarkNet. Kerefov used his office computer to buy drugs through cryptographic Internet messengers, negotiate with buyers about the doses he purchased, and supervise the delivery of stashes by couriers.

Three Russian Customs Academy employees confessed to buying banned substances from Kerefov for personal consumption. As many as 62 kilograms of mephedrone, 750 liters of drug-containing liquid, and precursors were seized a result of searches. Seven million rubles and 31,000 dollars in cashes were also found during the search activities.
