Russia outlines agenda for Russia-NATO Council meeting

NATO's military buildup in Eastern Europe will be the main issue on the agenda of the upcoming Russia-NATO Council. The meeting of the council will take place on July 13 in Brussels.

"The Russian side intends to initiate a discussion on the the so-called Plan Niinistö introduced by our Finnish partners to improve aviation safety in the Baltic Sea region and emphasize risks for the strategic stability arising from the ongoing creation of the US missile defense system in Europe," official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova said.

In addition, the participants of the meeting will discuss a number of other important issues, such as the situation in Ukraine, security in Afghanistan and the threat of proliferation of terrorism in certain regions.

The relations between Russia and NATO aggravated sharply in the spring of 2014, after the Crimea reunited with Russia. The work of the Russia-NATO Council was suspended, and the first meeting took place only in April of this year.
