Nizhny Novgorod region to increase inbound tourism three times

Nizhny Novgorod region Governor Valery Shantsev paid a work visit to the Voskresensky district to assess the implementation of programs for the development of inbound tourism in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Valery Shantsev inspected the construction of the museum and tourist complex "City of Kitezh" in the village of Vladimirskoye, Voskresensky district.

"Last year, I gave instructions to accelerate the construction of the museum and tourist complex "City of Kitezh," and now all construction works have been completed. The optical theater is ready, one only needs to prepare show programs to demonstrate, with the use of optical effects, what the whole world knows only by hearsay - tales of the City of Kitezh," Nizhny Novgorod region Governor Valery Shantsev said.

"We set ourselves the task to triple the tourist flow in the region, - said Shantsev. - It should be the way it is in all civilized countries, where the number of tourists equals the number of local residents - about three million people that is. The past year showed that this can be real: the volume of tourist services in the region gained 45 percent," the governor said.

According to Director of natural park "Voskresenskoe Povetluzhye," Alexei Groza, "the creation of the museum and tourist complex "City of Kitezh" will greatly increase the tourism potential of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"Remember, in Semenov or in Gorodets, there used to be only two or three cafes before the museum and tourist complexes "Golden Khokhloma" and "City of Masters" were opened there. Today, there is a developed tourist infrastructure there, dozens of jobs were created. I am sure that with the opening of "City of Kitezh" many tourists will be attracted to the region, and, therefore, budget revenues will be increased and more jobs will be created."

"Tourism is economy in the first place. There are countries that live exclusively on tourism that increases business profitability, - said Alexei Groza. - According to statistics, every tourist provides for about 6-7 jobs, and this multiplication effect gives an economy an opportunity to develop steadily. These are inexhaustible products, and we understand that tourism will only grow in the future."

"We have never set ourselves a goal to receive profit from culture. Culture is something that develops children or anyone who wants to be spiritually rich. Our main task is to educate well-educated, healthy and spiritually rich younger generation. It's worth the money that nobody in the world can evaluate," Governor Valery Shantsev said.

In 2012, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev signed regional target program "Development of domestic tourism in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2012-2016." The program suggests marketing Nizhny Novgorod tourist products inside the country and abroad, stipulates government support for investment projects related to the development of the material base and competitiveness of the Nizhny Novgorod tourist product, creates new tourist objects and provides assistance in training personnel for the tourism industry.

During the recent years, three museum and tourist complexes have been built in the region: "City of Masters" in the town of Gorodets, "Golden Khokhloma" and the Museum of Folk Life ("House of Semyon the Spoon Player") in Semenov. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, there are 25 companies working in the field of folks arts and crafts, along with 25 individual entrepreneurs, two arts and crafts center (Kulebaksky District, Novinskiy Center of the Chkalovsky district), as well as the pottery center in the Bogorodsky district.

According to Rosstat, the Federal Statistics Agency, the growth of the tourist flow in the Nizhny Novgorod region is among the highest in the Russian Federation. Thus, in comparison with 2005, the number of tourists in the Nizhny Novgorod region increased 1.6 times - from 526 to 850 thousand people in 2014.
