Ulyanovsk region cuts benefits for officials

Ulyanovsk region Governor Sergei Morozov gave instructions to reduce the number of privileges and benefits for officials.

It is planned to develop a new legal instrument that will touch upon state and municipal employees and persons holding state and municipal offices of the Ulyanovsk region, as well as employees of regional and municipal organizations. The general public will be actively involved in the activities to control the activities of the government and budget spending.

"I believe that today, when we face difficult challenges in terms of social support and economic development, we have no right to spend money, for example, to finance expensive trips or "golden parachutes" for civil servants," said Sergey Morozov at a meeting with representatives of the Public Chamber of the region.

According to the governor, to analyze the current regional legislation in this area and develop a common concept, it is necessary to involve civil servants themselves, as well as representatives of the Chamber of Justice and Social Control, the Federation of Trade Union Organizations, All-Russian public movements "People's Front" and "For Russia," as well as other nonprofit organizations.

In the Ulyanovsk region, there are already laws restricting the privileges of officials and the spending on the maintenance of the administrative apparatus and logistical base. The saved money will be aimed at improving the social sphere.

"It is scary to imagine how much money officials take from the budget. It is about time they should temper their own whims, - chairman of the Federation of Russian Trade Unions, Sergei Kovalev told Pravda.Ru. - Deputies and officials very often, under the guise of official trips, use their position for personal gain, for example, flying on holidays or to visit relatives. If it were controlled, one would not have to restrict anything. Therefore, one can only welcome, support and spread this initiative of the Ulyanovsk governor to other regions and the whole country. I wish him success," the expert said.
