Stray dogs kill five kangaroos in Russia

In Kaliningrad, a flock of stray dogs that penetrated into the territory of the local zoo attacked kangaroo and mauled five animals to death.

The tragedy occurred last night. It was said that the dogs jumped over the 1.7-meter-tall fence and got into two cages with kangaroos. Before that, the dogs were trying to dig a passage underneath the enclosure, but failed as the enclosure was mounted on a concrete basis.

The dogs have thus killed four Bennett kangaroos and one gray kangaroo. One of the killed animals was a female who had become a mother several days before the tragedy occurred. The baby kangaroo survived as it was staying in the purse of the deceased mother.

Thus, the Kaliningrad zoo now has two Bennett kangaroos and eight gray kangaroos left.

In the spring of 2009, stray dogs made their way onto the territory of the same zoo and attacked cloven-hoofed animals, killing a deer and a mountain goat.
