Horrific car accident in Russia's north kills 12, ten are children

A large car accident took place in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District in the north of Russia on December 4. Twelve people were killed in the accident, nine of them are children aged from 12 to 14, RIA Novosti reports.

The car accident, in which a passenger bus, a car and two heavy trucks were involved, took place in the afternoon of December 4 on Tyumen-Khanty-Mansiysk highway. There were 32 passengers in the bus, including 29 children, who were going back to Nefteyugansk from sports acrobatics competitions.

The bus rammed into a heavy truck, causing subsequent crashes with another truck and a car.

According to most recent reports, the accident killed 12 people - ten children and two adults. Another 22 people were injured. Nineteen people, eleven of them are children, remain hospitalized. Their condition varies from serious and extremely serious, officials said.

The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin is personally involved in the investigation into the circumstances of the accident. President Putin presented his condolences to families of the victims. Monday, December 5, was declared a day of mourning in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District.

The drivers of the bus and the truck were arrested.
