People's Republic of Donetsk introduces death penalty

The presidium of the Council of Ministers of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk introduced death penalty. The presidium also approved regulations on military courts and the Criminal Code, the press-center of the republic said.

"It's no secret that we have soldiers who commit crimes. There are facts of looting and violence. Hence, the creation of the military justice system should be a priority," Acting Attorney General of the republic, Eduard Yakubovski said.

The regulatory framework of the Russian Federation was taken as the basis for the development of the Criminal Code of the People's Republic of Donetsk. Death penalty was introduced for most serious crimes.

First Deputy Prime Minister of the republic, Vladimir Antyufeev, stressed that the introduction of death penalty - "was not revenge, but the highest degree of social protection." "We have to be on the side of the victim, to the side of their family. We must protect the people," he said.
