Slavyansk prepared for combat action

The Ukrainian town of Slavyansk is waiting for the military operation to begin. It was reported last night that the Ukrainian troops were going to storm the town, the population of which stood up against the new Kiev authorities, advocating the federalization of Ukraine. Self-defense forces were set on combat duty, as soon as the movement of army units near the town was detected.

Curfew was introduced in the town; the leaders of self-defense forces recommended residents not to leave their homes. One requires to obtain a special permission to leave home from midnight to six in the morning.

Defense fighters are on full alert, reinforcing roadblocks at the entrance to the town. The defenders of Slavyansk have military hardware in their disposal, which they received from the fighters of an airborne brigade, who sided with the protesters.

Two days ago, having entered Slavyansk, the brigade refused to fight against the locals. The military men simply disarmed themselves and left the town.

People's mayor of Slavyansk, a town in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, Vyacheslav Ponomarev appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to deploy peacemaking forces to the region to protect the territory from the criminal actions conducted by the new Kiev government.
