Fan of parkour tragically dies during first lesson

A 24-year-old woman died as she jumped from the roof of a 17-storeyed building in Russia's St. Petersburg. The woman was tempted to discover the excitement of a trendy street sport - parkour, Fontanka.Ru said.

The tragedy took place on May 27th at 6:00 a.m. near apartment building No. 8 on Martynovskaya Street. Police officers said that the woman went up to the roof of the building with her older sister. Prior to that the women got acquainted with four young men, who offered them to go out on a roof.

When on the roof, the men started showing the girls their parkour skills. They started jumping from the roof to the protruding eaves. They soon asked the girls to try doing that too. The older sister refused to brave the dangerous trick, but the younger woman made up her mind to take the risk. She jumped to her death.

As soon as the young men realized what had happened, they escaped from the scene.

A similar incident took place in Russia's Krasnodar in 2010. A young man, born in 1989, a big fan of parkour, fell down from the fourth storey of a building under construction and died.

Parkour is a mixture of acrobatics and athletics. The sport appeared in France, but  became popular throughout the world owing to film director Luc Besson. Walking past various obstacles - trees, roofs,parapets - is a bad tone for traceurs. Parkour became especially popular among young people.
