Nizhny Novgorod opens new international flight to Helsinki with Finnair

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a new international flight was launched. An Embraer E90 that can carry 100 passengers now conducts flights from Nizhny Novgorod to Helsinki on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

"Expanding the boundaries of air travel, we primarily expand the opportunities of the region and of Nizhny Novgorod residents, - the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev said. - Nizhny Novgorod residents receive opportunities to develop business tourism, they can travel to different countries and attend cultural and sports facilities. Logistics becomes understandable. I think that residents of Finland will be interested in Nizhny Novgorod as well, as the city became open for foreign tourists only 23 years ago.

Finnair is one of the largest airlines in Europe. The significance of this company is comparable to that of Lufthansa and Czech Airlines, that have been successfully operating in Nizhny Novgorod for years already.

"I know that they expect to work with several Russian cities (Samara and Kazan), but that we were the first," said Valery Shantsev.

"For us, this is the most important project of the year. We were set to open the route Nizhny Novgorod-Helsinki as soon as possible, - Finnair Commercial Director, Allister Paterson said. - This flight opens plenty of opportunities for residents of Nizhny Novgorod. First of all, it goes about the time of arrival in major European cities, such as Paris or London, where residents of Nizhny Novgorod can now land at 9 a.m. In Nordic and Baltic countries, in such cities as Oslo, Copenhagen, Tallinn, passengers will be able to arrive at as early as 8 a.m."
