Saddam Hussein Probably Leads Iraqi Resistance

The US-led administration in Iraq has still not managed to achieve impressive results

It seems that something like a guerilla movement is gathering steam in Iraq. News messages about attacks on American servicemen have become very frequent. The American command says that the attacks are coordinated from a specific center. Until recently, there was only one person who could issue orders in Iraq. For this reason, analysts speculate that it is Saddam Hussein who is leading the Iraqi resistance.

George W. Bush was afraid to visit Iraq. His plane was circling above the Iraqi capital, but it did not land. The propaganda effect of Bush's visit to Baghdad would have been great: the president, who liberated Iraq from tyranny, arrives in the capital of a free Iraq, with crowds of Iraqis are crying from joy.

Nevertheless, they decided not to take risks, but rather stays out of harm's way. Who knows what ideas might occur to "liberated Iraqis," taking into consideration that they have nothing to thank the new government for?

The US-led administration in Iraq hardly manages to maintain even the outward appearance of normal life. It is impossible to ascertain what is really happening in Iraq - there is no objective information. This is why it is not possible to even talk about the scale of the Iraqi resistance. Furthermore, it not known if the resistance is chaotic or organized. A spokesman for the American military command may prattle on about Saddam's implication in attacks on American soldiers, but there is no real evidence to prove it. What if the former Iraqi dictator is dead? Who commands the resistance then?

In fact, if this supposition is true, it might lead to worse consequences for the Americans. The US administration believed that the people of Iraq would start taking the USA's side as soon as Saddam's regime was overthrown. That was one of the fundamental factors underlying the American incursion into Iraq. It in the very beginning of the operation, it seemed that their judgment had been incorrect. American television channels broadcast rejoicing residents of Baghdad on numerous occasions. However, the exultation vanished just a couple of months later. The liberators have not managed to ameliorate the everyday problems of the common Iraqi people, and have added more problems to them instead. News agencies have not been reporting on the looting in Iraq lately. It is likely that they everything has already been looted, although it is also possible that looting has become a commonplace in Iraq.

It seems that the US-led administration made a very big mistake, when they ordered abolishing the Iraqi army and special services. It would have been more reasonable if they had tried to win at least a part of Iraqi military men over to their side (military men who did not take part in repression). The Americans have ignored the threat of Iraqi soldiers taking up arms. Yet, if several thousands of Iraqi servicemen start waging a guerrilla campaign, it would be enough to ruin the plans of the USA and its allies.

Most likely, the majority of Iraqi people were quite happy about the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime. In the end, they hoped that normal life would be retrieved in Iraq soon. However, time is passing by, but the US-led administration has not managed to achieve any impressive results in this respect. It is more probable than not that the number of malcontents will grow, and so will the resistance. In addition, one should not ignore the feeling of humiliation that has been caused by the USA's victory.

For the time being, it does not really matter if Saddam Hussein is leading the Iraqi resistance or not. On the other hand, one can buy video tapes on Baghdad markets with the footage of the former dictator celebrating one of his family holidays. The video was made before the war, and eyewitnesses say that sales are very high.
