USA will send military contingent to Georgia

According to unofficial information, Donald Rumsfeld in his visit to Georgia discussed expansion of the American military contingent in Georgia with the country’s political leaders. The discussion was about mobile military groups and a new regional security scheme, which is offered by the US.

Rumsfeld met the acting President Nino Burdzhanadze, State Minister Zurab Zhvaniya, Defense Minister David Gahokidze, “National Movement” leader and candidate for presidency Mikhail Saakishvili.

Burdzhanadze commented: “This is a very important visit to Georgia. We informed the American representative about the country’s situation and underlined the importance of partnership with the United States for Georgia”. According to her words, the most important thing for Georgia now is to join NATO quickly.

Rumsfeld in his turn said this: “We wait from Georgia political, economical and military reforms, which would make it closer to Western standards”.
