Israeli Army (Tsahal), being forced to economize due to budget shrinking, recently bought cheap military helmets from Americans' excess stocks.
The shape of those American helmets is much different from their Israeli "colleagues": while the latter is often called "half-a-watermelon", the overseas ones have ear protection and a small cap. It is exactly the shape of these helmets that made many Israeli soldiers refuse wearing them.
The thing is, these new helmets resemble the ones used by Nazi SS soldiers during the World War Second. Such similarity caused protest of many soldiers. However, the Army officials say that despite some slight similarity, soldiers get used to the helmets, which "even after modifications made in Israel still cost about ten times less than those made here"
