Due to its 2-1 victory over Turkish Galatasaray in Istanbul, as well as to the win of Spanish Barcelona over Belgian Brugge, Lokomotiv Moscow retains a chance to advance to the second stage of the Champions League competition.
This time Lokomotiv used the "away-game model", focusing on defence, and scored a goal in a counterattack only 20 minutes before the end of the match (the ball was netted by the team's captain Dmitry Loskov). But the Muscovites right away allowed a goal when in the 73rd minute Hassan Sas shot at Russian goal-keeper Sergei Ovchinnikov's goal from a short distance.
But the Turkish club's euphoria did not last long. Dmitry Loskov shot a corner kick well, and Vadim Yevseyev scored by a header in the 75th minute. The 2-1 score remained unchanged till the end of the game.
To continue vying for honours in the Champions League competition, it is now necessary for the Russian footballers to beat Belgian Brugge in the home game in the final round and to hope for a draw or for Galatasaray's defeat in the match with Barcelona in Spain.
