Russian and Chinese Scientists to Realise Joint Programs and Research Projects

On Tuesday, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a protocol on scientific co-operation for 2003-2007 and a plan of specific projects to be jointly realised by Russian and Chinese scientists.

Under the protocol, co-operation between the two countries' scientists will develop in the coming five years within the framework of joint programs and research projects of scientific and applied significance.

The sides agreed to establish direct ties between Russian and Chinese scientific institutions and exchange post-graduates.

"The Issue Plan of Scientific Co-operation Between RAN and the PRC Academy of Sciences for 2003-2007" co-ordinated by the two academies stipulates joint research in ecology, biology, chemical physics, chemistry, geology, geophysics, nuclear physics, power engineering, mathematics, information science and computer technology, machine-building, astronomy, oceanology and other spheres.

More than 30 Russian organisations and 33 Chinese scientific institutions will take part in the joint research.
