Ukrainians to Vote for a New Ruler This Weekend

It is the last day of campaigning before Ukraine shall elect a new president to replace Viktor Yushenko, the man who led the Orange Revolution five years ago and lost his popularity through breaking promises and debasing the political image of the Ukraine.

Two candidates have made it through to the final round of voting which takes place on Sunday, the Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, and her arch-rival Viktor Yanukovich, who was swept aside in the revolution of 2004.

Many Ukrainians lay hopes on him in recovering the old regime, which existed before the colourful revolution.

Yulia Tymoshenko, who chooses the pro-Russian course of relations, has many devotees too.

Most analysts expect the vote to be very close.

BBC News has contributed to the report.
