A stranded whale calf died Wednesday on a Texas beach after failed efforts to save him.
The whale calf, dubbed Moby, and his mother were found stranded Thursday on a Galveston beach. The mother, which weighed 450 pounds (204 kilograms) and was about seven feet (2 meters) long, died Saturday
Officials with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network told the Houston Chronicle that Moby died after he was not able to support himself in the water anymore.
The whale calf, which was less than 4 feet (1.2 meters) long and weighed about 50 pounds (23 kilograms), had been cared for in a rehabilitation tank.
