Italian air traffic controllers staged a four-hour strike Tuesday, causing 148 flights to be canceled at Rome's two airports, officials said.

Rome airports spokesman Adriano Franceschetti said he did not have a breakdown of domestic or international flights affected.

The strike, called by a small union of workers at Italy's air traffic agency ENAV, began at 12 noon (1000 GMT), reports AP.

Union officials could not immediately be reached on the telephone, and airport officials and ENAV officials said they had no information on the reasons for the strike.
