Two people were killed after their light plane crashed in a Sydney neighborhood Tuesday, narrowly missing houses and an elementary school. Seven people on the ground were hospitalized for emotional distress.
The charred aircraft was so mangled after crashing into a power pole that authorities initially had trouble determining how many people were on board, The Associated Press says.
The pupils were evacuated to a nearby parkland were reported to be safe as fire crews doused the plane and cars along the street with foam.
Police said that the pilot of the plane had died. It is not known if the plane was carrying any passengers, but it was feared that a second person had died in the wreckage, Telegraph informs.
