Slovak police finds 160 kilos of cocaine

By Anastasia Tomazhenkova: Slovak police found more than 160 kilograms (350 pounds) of cocaine hidden in wine bottles. It is the country's largest seizure of cocaine.

Police seized the cocaine last week in a customs warehouse near the southern town of Dunajska Streda, Slovak deputy police chief Michal Kopcik and the director of the Customs Criminal Office Jozef Dudas said.

The drug was shipped in two containers from Argentina to Hamburg, Germany, and then on to Slovakia. The containers were declared to contain wine but authorities recovered a total of 163.8 kilograms (360 pounds) of pure cocaine from 420 wine bottles.

The cocaine, which was likely meant for European Union countries but not Slovakia, had a street value of more than 1.6 billion koruna (70.7 million dollars).

The previous largest amount of cocaine seized in Slovakia was 10 kilograms (22 pounds) in 1998.

The officials declined to provide any further details, saying the investigation continues. They said nobody has been charged so far.
