Sarkozy set the tone for the talks with the 38 African leaders when he warned that developing nations must make good on their promises of billions of dollars in aid to poorer countries at the Copenhagen summit, Times LIVE informs.

Pointing out that France is set to take over the presidency of both the G20 and G8, Sarkozy pledged to use these platforms to advocate for a permanent seat for Africa in the United Nations Security Council and noting the need for the council's reform because "we cannot govern a 21st century world with a 20th century institution".

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, the co-host of the summit, previously scheduled to take place in Sharm-El-Sheikh but was moved to Nice, outlined practical joint mechanisms to take forward the new France-Africa partnership, AllAfrica.com says.
