British prosecutors plan statement on killing of Litvinenko

Prosecutors of Britain will make a statement Tuesday on the investigation into the death of a former Soviet agent who was killed by a radioactive substance.

The Crown Prosecution Service gave no information about the content of the planned statement on Alexander Litvinenko's death.

Litvinenko died from polonium-210 poisoning in a London hospital Nov. 23, and on his deathbed accused President Vladimir Putin of being behind his killing.

Litvinenko was a vocal Kremlin critic who accused Russian authorities of being behind deadly 1999 apartment building bombings that stoked support for a renewed offensive against separatists in Chechnya.
