Dell and Microsoft to team up in production of PRODUCT (RED)

Product Red, styled as (PRODUCT) RED or PRODUCT (RED) is drawing more companies to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The list of participants including American Express, Apple Inc., Converse, Motorola, Gap, Emporio Armani and Hallmark was enriched by such companies as Dell and Microsoft.

It is an initiative begun by U2's frontman, Bono, and Bobby Shriver of Debt AIDS Trade in Africa (DATA).Bobby Shriver has been announced as the CEO of Product Red, whilst Bono is currently an active public spokesperson for the brand.

Each partner company creates a product with the Product Red logo. In return for the opportunity to increase their own revenue through the Product Red products they sell, a percentage of the profit is given to the Global Fund.

Microsoft and Dell are going to launch a series of PRODUCT (RED) offerings at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos , Switzerland next week. Supposedly Microsoft and Dell will offer a team-project by producing both desktop and laptop computers under the PRODUCT (RED) banner.

These computers will have a special edition of the Dell XPS One desktop system, and new editions of the Dell XPS M1330 and M1530 notebook computers.

$50 will go to the Global Fund if a notebook computer purchased, and $80 will make up the contribution if a desktop computer bought.

The systems will have a (RED)-themed version of Microsoft Windows Vista, and design elements from PRODUCT (RED) co-founder (and U2 frontman) Bono.
