U.N. staff injured in car bombing in Algiers

A spokesman said that some staff were injured in a car bombing attack near the U.N. refugee office in Algiers.

"There was some damage to the UNHCR building," said Ron Redmond, chief spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. "There were some injuries among staff, but we don't have details on that," he said.

A head count was under way by the agency to determine where its staff members are.

Redmond told The Associated Press that the explosion happened about 9:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) in a street where the offices of the UNHCR and the U.N. Development Program are both located.

"What is suspected to be a car bomb went off in the street," he said. "We don't have details.

"They're doing a staff survey, just to locate all of our staff."
