Worker trapped in an 8-foot-deep trench

A worker was trapped in an 8-foot-deep (2.4-meter) trench that collapsed during construction work at a private school in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

The trench being dug outside the Leif Ericson Day School caved in Friday afternoon, burying the worker, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi.

Several department units had arrived Friday afternoon to begin digging out the trench.
