Saudi Arabia to purchase Airbus refueling planes for 400 million euros

Saudi Arabia signed a contract Monday to buy Airbus refueling planes for the Royal Saudi Air Force in a deal valued at up to EUR 400 million (US$520 million), the French Defense Ministry said.

French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and her Saudi counterpart signed the state-to-state contract for two Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport planes, the ministry said in a statement.

The contract for the planes, built at an Airbus plant near its headquarters in Toulouse, France, is worth EUR 350 million to EUR 450 million (US$455 million to US$585 million), the ministry said.

Spain's CASA will convert the planes for military use at its Getafe site outside Madrid after their production, the ministry told the AP.
